The latest show: July 16th -- Rock Hill is off celebrating his 60th birthday, but is represented by a loop from the soundtrack of the latest Lohbado Vlog, while Kenneth Friendliness is off leasing a car for his girlfriend. Battery Up has returned for a repeat dose before running back to Saskatoon (where they never turn the maple leaf upside down!) Apart from that this was MC Classic, featuring Really, Porter, Gogo (pictured), and half a Christ!

Mannlicher Carcano's Off Register is a soundscape created by the simultaneous playing of three individually composed sections of different lengths, which constantly recombine into new configurations. Mannlicher Carcano is comprised of three members, Porter Hall, Really Happening, and Gogo Godot, each of whom lives in a different North American city.

Each collaborator created his portion of Off Register without knowledge of the other components, thereby creating a sound environment removed from both geographical specificity and individual creative intent. The work is a continuation of the group’s Ambient Narrative series, which uses narrative elements and structures (musical, verbal, documentary, and theatrical), and assembles them into a shifting, participatory, non-hierarchical continuum.

This particular iteration is a reconstruction. Although a field recording of the installation was made, its present whereabouts is unknown. The three individual CDRs that constituted the components of the piece - thought lost - were recently unearthed in Really Happening's audio dungeon, fallen behind a moldering Optigan. These were mixed into a single track simulating the mix an auditor standing in the center of the gallery might hear. Other mixes, including one that simulates the experience of moving through the space, may be forthcoming.

Mannlicher Carcano is an experimental, improvisational audio collage group who have been working together since 1987, creating performances, recordings, installations, and radio art. They produce a weekly radio and web-cast, The Mannlicher Carcano Radio Hour, and have released over 25 cassettes, CDs, CDRs, and vinyl recordings.

New Mannlicher Carcano LP "Reconstituted Cream of CRCA" available for free DL!

In 1992 Mannlicher Carcano was invited to perform at UC San Diego’s prestigious Center for Research in Computers in the Arts, or CRCA. Extra performers included Minister Altair-5 and the Ex- Rev John Poo Poo Bleeding Bear von Higham, and hundreds of sound and image producing devices (none of which had anything to do with computers). Several hours of the performance recordings were later reduced by Porter Hall into a two-minute track using a laborious analog tape-to-tape dubbing process, and subsequently released as Condensed Cream of CRCA on the 1993 cassette War Measures Act (also included on several subsequent compilations).

Reconstituted Cream of CRCA consists of that track digitally re-expanded into an hour-long ambient composition by Really Happening. It is available now as a free download at archive.org. The cover image above is a detail of a lo-res thumbnail of Porter's graphic score for the original condensation, resampled to 300 dpi and color-inverted.

The Master Number

As before mentioned, the number 11 has special significance. In Numerology it is not reduced to a single digit. It is a power number as is 22, 33 etc. The number 11 represents the vision. The number 22 combines vision with action. The number 33 offers guidance to the world. The master numbers 11, 22, and 33 represent a triangle. A triangle of enlightenment or illumination.

And by multiplying 11 by 6 (the number of evil) you get 66. If you added the two digits together it is reminiscent of the Roman number II (number of both the division and corruption).

This compilation was inspired by the BIG FLORIDA NOISE COMPILATION that was organized by the awesome Hal McGee earlier this year, which is also available for free streaming and download.

The BCNC album was compiled, organized, edited, and produced by Lob Instagon for Thee Instagon Foundation and the One Nation Under Noise project during the Summer of 2014. The Mannlicher track is an unmanipulated excerpt from the June 21 broadcast of The Mannlicher Carcano Radio Hour, "a weekly improvisational audio collage mixing up to 5 geographically separate source signals, now in its 16th year."
