MC Live at Art Basil LA 2016

This is the youtube archive of Mr. Let's Paint TV's live stream from the Art Basil LA art fair in his backyard in Van Nuys CA. The actual performance is the first hour +45 or so, then there's an MC soundtrack over a fairly minimal video, then several more hours of less eventful documentation. Participating in this performance, which was the LA segment of the regular Mannlicher Carcano Radio Hour, were Really Happening, Kenneth Friendliness, and Herr Schurdt, with cameo appearances from Mr. Let's Paint TV and new member Sun Dog, plus sonic backwash from Porter in Newfoundland. The actual broadcast version of the show will be linked here shortly.

MC:PDPMB(L.C.)

In 1985, at the nadir of L. Cohen's career (his masterpiece Various Positions having been released only in Canada), Mannlicher Carcano resolved to jump start it by lending the weight of their endorsement via a tribute LP of Cohen covers, to be entitled "LEONARD COHENS GREATEST HITS (as performed by mannlicher carcano)", and they recorded 3 or 4 numbers before Jennifer Warnes (who had apparently been listening in to private conversations in the Tower of Song commissary) beat them to the punch. On Saturday, Nov 13 2016, the group realized one of the originally conceived covers with this profound yet danceable rendition of one of Cohen's most obscure numbers, the rambling, desperate "Please Don't Pass Me By (A Disgrace)" from 1970. Dig.

PS: This version does not appear on the broadcast version of the radio show linked below. So you'll just have to download both. https://archive.org/details/MannlicherCarcanoPleaseDontPassMeByLCohen

He Comes Out of the Bldg!

The latest show: July 16th -- Rock Hill is off celebrating his 60th birthday, but is represented by a loop from the soundtrack of the latest Lohbado Vlog, while Kenneth Friendliness is off leasing a car for his girlfriend. Battery Up has returned for a repeat dose before running back to Saskatoon (where they never turn the maple leaf upside down!) Apart from that this was MC Classic, featuring Really, Porter, Gogo (pictured), and half a Christ!

This is Really Happening!

WHAT IF THERE’S NO NEXT BIG THING?
Douglas Coupland

What if, in the tech world, there is no next big thing? First we had fire, then came the wheel, and the PC, then the internet and then Google and then the iPhone and then … that’s it. There’s nothing more left to come. We’re waiiiiiiting—but no, we’ve received all there’s going to be and tech’s broad strokes have all happened. Does this sound scary, or kind of sad? We can laugh at such a proposition because we know it’s not going to happen. We might dream of a year when people would just stop inventing new things, but in reality there’s going to be more and more new stuff. All of us will continue our lives permanently vibrating on the tech revolution’s vertical asymptote—screaming like Mia Farrow in Rosemary’s Baby, mid-coitus with the devil: “Oh my God, this is really happening!”
...

Go!Go! Smart Animals = Radio Show MP3 backlog?!

I'm not sure how many of these 15 links are still active, but we'll put them up now, and adjust them as they're checked -- the first few should connect to shows. Quite a backlog! UPDATE: Dang! Well, what with expired links and mysteriously dysfuctional ones, we whittled about 30 hours of material down to 6. Guess you'll just have to wait for Courtesy Flush Volume 3!

Mannlicher Carcano on Glossolalia

Free 2 hour mp3 of Mannlicher Carcano on Glossolalia last week. Glossolalia, hosted by Mitchell Brown and Don Bolles can be heard every Monday from 6 - 8 PM on KXLU 88.9 FM in Los Angeles, and streaming 24/7 at kxlu.com.

Mannlicher Carcano admin took over the timeslot on April 04 2016 to create a roughly chronological 2-hour profile of the band. The recording of this intervention was tweaked back at HQ to maximize diversity and cut back on the yikyak.

This recording is historically notable for the return of founding member Gogo Godot to full participation after an absence of 7 years! Listen for his electric aluminum cello...
